Laboratory Testing at Essex Animal Hospital

While a physical exam can tell us a lot of things about your pet’s wellbeing, there are times when something lurking beneath the surface is causing your pet’s illness. Lab testing can help our Bloomfield veterinary team pinpoint the cause of your pet’s illness as well as give us important information about your pet’s health more generally. Because we have a laboratory facility in-house, your pet can get their test results back much faster than if we needed to send your pet’s samples to an outside laboratory for testing.

Our on-site laboratory testing capabilities include:

Each of these tests provide us with a wealth of information about your pet’s internal systems and can help our Bloomfield veterinarians diagnose your pet more quickly than we might be able to with just a physical exam. Importantly, we keep records of all of your pet’s tests to compare results and help us identify changes to their health that we might otherwise not be able to see.

Digital Radiography

At Essex Animal Hospital, we use digital X-ray technology, also known as digital radiography, to see beyond your pet’s fur at their bones, muscles, and other dense tissues inside of their body. Digital X-rays use a small amount of electromagnetic radiation to penetrate your pet’s body and take still images of their internal systems. This technology produces images which provide a higher degree of detail than traditional film methods of radiography.

Importantly, digital X-rays are non-invasive and pain-free so you don’t have to worry about your pet feeling uncomfortable during the imaging process. However, because digital X-rays produce still images, we may need to sedate your pet in order to get the clearest image possible.

No matter what we decide we need in order to properly diagnose and treat your pet, you can be sure that our Bloomfield veterinary team treats both you and your pet with the care and respect you deserve.
